Andy Sawyer began
his career as a photographer in Cashmere, Wash.,
while working for the Cashmere Valley Record and
The Leavenworth Echo weekly newspapers. His work
earned him awards and gave
him
opportunities to work for the Federal Way News in
Federal Way, Wash., The Times-News in Twin
Falls, Idaho, and the East Valley Tribune in Mesa,
Ariz. before joining the Herald-Republic staff in
October of 2006. Andy likes to spend his time off
with his wife, Tracy, and their daughter,
Lucy, and, around lunch time, is likely to be found
at one of the many taco stands in the Valley,
looking for the perfect adobada.
Sara Gettys grew up
in Norman, Okla. After earning her bachelor's
degree in English at Hollins University in Roanoke,
Virginia, she attended graduate school at the
University of Missouri, graduating with an M.A. in
journalism in 2005. She began working at The
Yakima
Herald-Republic in December of 2005. She has worked
at newspapers in Columbia, Missouri; Portland, Ore.
and Bakersfield, Calif.
Kris Holland worked
two summers standing elbow-deep in salmon in an
Alaskan cannery before starting his photojournalism
career at the Spartan Daily at San Jose State
University in 2002. In 2003 he got his first
real
job as a staff photographer for the Brownsville
Herald on the Texas/Mexico border. After spending
two years covering assignments ranging from the
high school state soccer championships to prison
riots in Matamoros, Mexico he joined the Yakima
Herald Republic photo staff in August, 2005.

Gordon King started
his newspaper career with a brief and unprofitable
stint as an ad salesman.Since starting full time in
news photography in 1984, he's worked at newspapers
in Gig Harbor, Wash., Lander, Wyoming, Coeur
d'Alene
, Idaho
and Moscow, Idaho before joining the
Herald-Republic staff in 1988.
